Photo-sharing platform Snapchat teamed up with entertainment giant Live Nation to merge AR and music festivals. Through their multi-year partnership, the two companies will elevate live performances beyond stages and screen.

Announcing the news at the Snap Partner Summit this week, the social media platform revealed that an immersive AR tool will be available at major music festivals.

From New York’s Governors Ball to Paris’ Lollapalooza, 16 live events will give attendees the opportunity to build “a deeper connection between fans and artists” through custom-built AR experiences.

The new integration with live event visualization company Disguise will bring AI interaction to the Snapchat camera.

This tech-forward venture will allow artists to bring their creative ideas to life, while festival-goers will discover exclusive landmarks, find friends, and try on merchandise.

In the upcoming shows, selected participants will interact with the on-stage production via Disguise RenderStream. Additionally, Snap will launch its AR Compass and 3D map, allowing music fans to navigate the event’s grounds.

“At Snap, we love building new ways to help people experience the world,” a Snapchat spokesperson said.

“Whether it be daily communication with friends and family, improving fashion with AR try-on technology, attending sporting events and enhancing the fan experience, and even seeing live music.”

Meanwhile, the photo-sharing app will collaborate with DJ Kygo to bring those experiences to his shows this summer. The company stated that 85% of Snapchatters use the app to enhance their live music experience.
